Curious about why this happens? Keep reading to find out more!

What is Delta 8 THC?

At a certain point, everyone was fascinated with CBD (cannabidiol). People wanted to know: What is CBD and what does it do? However, delta 8 has taken the spotlight with all its psychoactive properties and its close relationship to delta-9 THC, and it has quickly grown to become just as well known as CBD. To keep things simple, delta-8 THC is an analog of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which allows it to share many properties with the cannabinoid.

Here’s a list of some of the potential effects of delta 8:

  • Stimulating the appetite
  • Acting as an analgesic
  • Offering neural protection
  • Nausea suppression
  • Relief from stress and anxiety

Does Delta 8 Make You Hungry?

The short answer is, yes–Delta 8 THC can certainly make you hungry!

Delta 8 THC can spark your appetite and make you feel hungry, even though each person’s experience can vary based on a variety of factors. As it is with other cannabinoids, the overall effects, including appetite stimulation, can vary on things like the type of delta 8 you consume, how much you take, your weight, and more.

Many anecdotal reports from people who have experienced the cannabinoid state that delta 8 makes you hungry—most would say even more so than delta 9. There is even a bit of research to back up those statements (more on this below!)

Research on Appetite Stimulation and Delta 8

Delta 8 THC has not been so extensively studied, but appetite stimulation is one of the usages that has been identified by researchers in several studies.

One study done on animal subjects revealed that mice induced with minimal doses of delta 8 THC had a 16% escalation in food intake initially, and that intake later escalated substantially as studies went on Not only did the mice eat more food, but they also seemed to exhibit increased brain function.

Even though not necessarily related to appetite stimulation, another research study found that delta 8 THC worked particularly well to mitigate nausea in patients undergoing antineoplastic treatment.

Surely, there is a lot that we don’t know yet regarding how well delta 8 could induce improved appetite. However, it is fair to assume that if you are struggling with a lack of appetite, delta 8 may be worth looking into.

How Does Delta 8 Stimulate Your Appetite?

Delta 8 cooperates with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is a cell-signaling network in the human body that regulates a variety of functions, including hunger. The ECS consists of several different components, but there is one definite component that is suitable to gain an understanding of how delta 8 makes you more hungry–CB1 receptors.

Delta 8 binds to these particular receptors, which happen to be part of the central nervous system when introduced to the body. The CB1 receptors are liable for signaling numerous processes which control everything from metabolism and sleep to {pain and appetite|appetitie and pain|hunger and pain|pain and hunger. So, almost like a switchboard of sorts, when Delta 8 THC binds to the CB1 receptors, a switch gets activated that could make you feel a bit hungry.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how Delta 8 THC can stimulate hunger from a research point of view:

  • Inhibit adrenal cyclase
  • Regulate various potassium channel functions
  • Stimulate the activity of mitogen-activated protein

Some of the effects could be proportionately related to appetite stimulation, even though further research is needed to be conducted to gain a better understanding.
